Nov 6, 2018

CDC statistics on oral health in the US indicate that though the number of children following through on their dental visits is above 80%, the percentage of the adult population following through for the same is less than 65%!
If you visit the dentist between one and three times a year, good on you! If however you’re you’ve been falling behind on your appointments and notice any or all of these symptoms, you might’ve set yourself up for trouble:

The first and most serious sign that something isn’t right with your oral health is pain in your teeth. Toothaches can vary with regard to the discomfort they cause. In the presence of cavities, though the initial pain is rather mild, the same quickly becomes excruciating if left unchecked.
If you’re feeling pain or discomfort in your teeth, the sooner you see a dentist, the less trouble you will likely have to go through when it comes to treatment – which it will!

Gum Complications

The state of your gums also contributes to your overall oral health and the same is not to be taken likely. Unhealthy or weak gums as well as gum diseases can lead to the loss of teeth as well as numerous other oral complications.
Though the color of your gums may vary slightly due to genetics, but for the most part, healthy gums have a dark pinkish hue to them. If your gums look discolored or look like they have sores or rashes on them, a visit to the dentist is essential.
Further, if you experience pain in your gums or periodic gum bleeding, they might be weakening or receding. In any case, if your gums start giving you trouble, you probably haven’t seen a dentist in a while!

Bad Breath

Sure if you don’t look out for your oral hygiene by brushing, flossing and rinsing properly, as well as staying hydrated among other things, you’re likely to suffer from a case of bad breath.
If however you practice all of the above regularly and are still struggling with bad breath, an oral complication might be behind it.
In most cases, bad breath can be the result of plaque accumulation behind the teeth in adults – nothing a professional scaling or cleaning can’t fix! This being said bad breath can even be caused due to existing tooth infections or cavities. Seeing a dentist in this case is highly recommended.

Winding Down

In the situations above, it is essential to schedule a dentist appointment as soon as possible. It also makes sense to just see a dentist at least once a year so you’re on top of your oral health leaving you less to stress about!
