My Mouth Is Killing Me - Getting Emergency Dental Care

October 12, 2019

If you have severe pain in your mouth, and it won’t go away, it’s important that you get the help that you need as quickly as possible. In this blog post, we are going to take a look at some of the different dental emergencies and what you should do if you find yourself experiencing one. So, continue reading to discover everything you need to know.

There are a number of different incidents that can result in pain in the mouth and be classified as a dental emergency. Examples include radiating face pain, infection, a lesion on the gums, loss of a crown, veneer or other restoration, an incident resulting in a chipped or broken tooth, unexplained tooth pain or facial swelling, as well as trauma or accidents.

So, what should you do if you’re experiencing one of these emergency dental incidents? Well, the first step would be to try and see whether you can locate an emergency dentist in the area who would be willing to see you as soon as possible. There are a number of dentists these days who offer emergency services, meaning they will see you out-of-hours. Because of this, it is definitely worth taking the time to do some research online to see whether or not you can be fitted in anywhere.

Aside from this, there some other pieces of advice to follow, depending on the circumstances. For example, if you have a cracked tooth, you need to rinse your mouth straight away with warm water. Cleaning the area is imperative. You can then help to keep the swelling down by using cold compresses. On the other hand, if an adult or a permanent tooth has been knocked out, you should make sure it is kept moist. If possible, attempt to place the tooth back in the socked, without touching the root. However, if you cannot do this, place it in between your cheek and gums in milk. You should then get to your dentist as quickly as possible! For those who are experiencing awful toothaches, you should use warm water to rinse the mouth out. Moreover, you should get rid of any food that is caught between your teeth by using dental floss. Do not put aspirin on the gum tissues or the aching tooth. If you have an object stuck in your mouth, use floss to try and gently remove it. However, do not use a pointed or sharp instrument to attempt this.

All in all, there is no denying that any sort of dental emergency can be a worrying experience. However, we hope that the information that has been provided will be useful for you. Of course, the best thing that you can do is try to visit a dentist as quickly as possible. There are a lot of dentists offering out-of-hours services nowadays for emergencies, so do a bit of research online in order to find emergency dentists in your area who may be able to assist with this.
