Pediatric Dentistry - Treating Children Of All Ages, Starting At 6 Months Old

Children’s dentistry is just as important as adults seeing a dentist regularly. Teeth demand care and skill, and your kids deserve to see a dentist for them to maintain their bright smiles. Good dental hygiene isn't important just for adult. Even though baby teeth will eventually fall out, it is important to teach good dental hygiene habits to children so that it becomes a habit with them as they get older. Regular dental exams are an important part of maintaining oral health for both adults and children. We are a team of experienced pediatric dentists in Las Vegas, NV, and will help keep your child’s teeth in perfect condition.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association recommend that children have their first dental exam after their first tooth comes in and no later than his or her first birthday.

For toddlers, grade-school children and adolescents, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends dental checkups every six months. More frequent visits may be recommended if the child is at high risk for tooth decay.

A visit to the dentist can be scary for children. The odors, tools and the sounds at a dental office can upset a child. This should not deter you, however, from bringing in your child, if they learn to become familiar with your family dentist through regular visits, they will lose their fear of going to the dentist.

When talking to your child about his or her dental exam, try not to use the words "pain" or "hurt." Don't mention any negative dental experiences you might have had. At the same time, be sure to listen to your child if she or he has any fears about visiting the dentist or having a dental exam. Reassure them that you will be close by and that everything will be okay.

If your child is between 6 months and a year old, the dentist or hygienist might place your child on a table or have you hold your child on your lap in a chair during an exam.

During a child’s dental exam, we will gently clean the child's teeth and evaluate any problems such as tooth decay. For older children, the exam may also include dental X-rays, which are sent to a computer and viewed on a screen.

We will likely discuss your child's diet and oral hygiene habits, and may show your child the proper way to brush and floss.

We may put a topical fluoride treatment gel on your child's teeth and check for any sores or bumps inside the mouth.

If the child is a toddler, then our childrens dentist 89117 will evaluate the impact of pacifier use, thumb sucking, jaw clenching or nail biting, which can be detrimental.

For grade schools kids, we will also repair any cavities or tooth defects, and check how your child's upper and lower teeth are fitting together.

If the child is a teen, then we may tell him or her about the health risks of tobacco, substance abuse, extreme diets, alcohol use and oral piercings (inside the mouth).

If necessary, we may also recommend removing wisdom teeth that may be overcrowding existing teeth or coming in at a wrong angle.

If your child has never been to a dentist or it’s been a long time since his or her last visit, do not let another moment go by. Call and make a dental appointment for your child with an experienced childrens dentist 89117.
